Rabbi, Lecturer, Founder of Torah in Motion

Rabbi Jay Kelman, founder of Torah in Motion, received a BSc in accounting from Yeshiva University and Smicha from its affiliate, Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He served as a pulpit rabbi in Toronto for 15 years, and was a recipient of the Award for Rabbinic Leadership from the United Jewish Communities Federation of North America. Rabbi Kelman is a member of both the Rabbinical Council of America and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Rabbi Kelman is a Chartered Accountant (CA) in Canada and earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) degree in the United States, with previous work experience in the Tax Department of a large international accounting firm. His monthly column Money Matters is published in the Canadian Jewish News. In addition to his founder and leadership roles in Torah in Motion, Rabbi Kelman teaches Halacha and Rabbinics at the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto. He and his wife Ilana are the proud parents of six children. 

Noted Educator, Author and Lecturer

Professor Marc B. Shapiro is the Director and Chair of the Weinberg Judaic Studies Institute at the University of Scranton. A graduate of Brandeis and Harvard University, he is the author of numerous books and articles including Between the Yeshiva World and Modern Orthodoxy and The Limits of Orthodox Theology, both of which were National Jewish Book Award Finalists. His newest book, Changing the Immutable: How Orthodox Judaism Rewrites Its History, appeared in 2015. A recipient of many prestigious awards and fellowships, his research and teaching centers on the areas of Modern Jewish History, Rabbinic Literature, and Jewish Theology and Philosophy. Professor Shapiro is one of Modern Orthodoxy’s most popular lecturers, often speaking before large audiences in the United States, Canada, England, and Israel.

Board Certified Cardiologist

Joseph Shatzkes is a Board Certified Physician in Cardiovascular Diseases, Internal Medicine, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology. He is a member of Englewood Cardiology Consultants in New Jersey and is an attending physician at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. His interests include preventative and consultative cardiology and medicine, critical care cardiology, and medical ethics.

After graduating summa cum laude from the prestigious Brooklyn College BAMD program, he completed medical school at Downstate University Medical Center. There, as well, he graduated summa cum laude, and was honored as president of the exclusive Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and was nominated by his peers as an inaugural member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center where he was recognized with an award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine. He subsequently completed his cardiovascular fellowship training at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Tax Law & Estate Planning Expert, Noted Lecturer

Joseph Rafalowicz, a graduate of the Yeshiva of Flatbush, the University of Pennsylvania and the Harvard Law School, is honored to serve as a board member of the Westchester Jewish Council  and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Westchester Governmental Relations Committee and as a member of the Public Policy Committee of UJA-Federation of New York. Joseph is also a member of the AIPAC National Council and the AIPAC Westchester Council.

Joseph will lecture about the ramifications that the new Tax Bill recently signed into Law will have for all of us.
